Abu Dhabi Airport gets a new terminal – AND a new name
Abu Dhabi International Airport recently opened up a brand new terminal and now the airport will also be getting a new name.
ABU DHABI AIRPORT’S LAUNCHES NEW MIDFIELD TERMINAL
After a delay of over six years, Abu Dhabi International Airport officially opened their new airport terminal, ‘Terminal A’ this November.

As previously reported, Midfield Terminal, which will be known as Terminal A, can accommodate around 45 million passengers per year, process 11 000 travellers per hour and operate 79 aircraft at any one time.

The terminal is said to cover 742 000 sqm, one of the largest airport terminals in the world, and is expected to greatly increase the airport’s passenger and cargo capacity.

Chairman Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, said that the new terminal would do great things for the Emirate’s sustainable economic development.
“As Abu Dhabi’s new gateway to the world, Terminal A is an embodiment of Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to support the emirate’s sustainable economic development,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad said.

It’s reported that several airlines including Etihad Airways, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will move into the new terminal.

A NEW NAME
Now, it has also been announced that UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued directives that on 9 February 2024, Abu Dhabi International Airport will go about a name change, and officially be renamed Zayed International Airport.
The new name will coincide with the official opening ceremony of Terminal A, reports Skift.
