Mapimpi and Marx reunite with the Springboks [Videos]
Malcolm Marx and Makazole Mapimpi were warmly welcomed back into the Springboks camp ahead of the World Cup final.
The Springboks are bracing themselves for an epic Rugby World Cup final against New Zealand at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday evening, when the team will be targeting a fourth historic world title. Injured Springbok stars, Makazole Mapimpi and Malcolm Marx were seen arriving in Paris to reunite with the rest of the squad ahead of the Rugby World Cup Final.

The scene has been set for a colossal battle between two of rugby’s greatest rivals and the two best teams in the world according to the current world rankings (the Springboks are in first place and New Zealand second) in what will mark their third match-up this year.
The Boks managed to go through their World Cup without too many injury concerns, although wing Makazole Mapimpi and hooker Malcolm Marx unfortunately did see their tournaments cut short.
Nevertheless, Mapimpi and Marx have now rejoined the Springboks squad in a special gesture of inclusion that was previously confirmed by director of rugby Rassie Erasmus.

MARX AND MAPIMPI WILL SHARE IN SPRINGBOKS’ SPOILS
Even before the tournament kicked off, it was interesting to note that the Daily Maverick reported that the players organisation MyPlayers had already begun the process of agreeing on World Cup bonuses with the South African Rugby Union (Saru) more than a year ago.
“The feedback we got from the players was that they were happy and comfortable with the bonus amounts and the payment structure,” MyPlayers chief executive Eugene Henning stated. “We have achieved a nice balance with what’s affordable for Saru and what the players are happy with.
“The remuneration increases as the team advances in the tournament and once they (hopefully) reach the knockout stages, the bonuses see a significant increase. So not only do the players have the incentive of winning the World Cup for personal and national glory, they also have a significant financial incentive as well.”

Back in 2019, Trevor Nyakane and Jesse Kriel suffered tournament injuries, but the Daily Maverick reported that “the playing group took a collective decision to split their bonuses equally to include every player who made a contribution to the tournament”. Thomas du Toit and Damian Willemse, who replaced those two players, were also eligible for match fees and bonuses for games they played subsequent to their inclusion.

Similarly, it’s now reported that both Marx and Mapimpi will share in the team bonus structure, while they are expected to receive World Cup medals as well.
“RWC group stage match fees are essentially the same as “normal” Tests outside of a World Cup,” another excerpt from the Daily Maverick explained. “The lucrative and important bonus structure only kicks in once the squad reaches the knockout stages of the tournament.
“If they win the tournament, players could earn significant bonuses. The exact figure was not made public, but it’s well in the seven-figure ballpark.”

Both players will share in the team bonus structure despite returning home injured.
Regarding medals, World Rugby has generally provided about 33 medals for each member of the group and they should also get a medal but this isn't clear yet. pic.twitter.com/DHjvPPVixZ
