Munich Airport introduces new smart trolleys

MUNICH AIRPORT INTRODUCES TROLLEYS OF THE FUTURE

Munich Airport is stepping into the future with brand new tablet-equipped trolleys to enhance passengers’ airport experience.

According to Travel News, the German airport has started a six-month trial of the new smart baggage trolleys, which were created by Danish company Intelligent Track Systems.

The free-to-use smart trolleys are fitted with tablets that allow passengers to scan their boarding pass or punch in their flight details manually in order to receive real-time flight information and updates.

Passengers can also select facilities, such as shops and restaurants that they wish to go to, and the trolley will provide guidance through the terminal via an integrated map and directory. 

Passengers at Munich Airport can now enjoy a more digital experience in the time before departure. Dr Jan-Henrik Andersson, COO of Munich Airport, said that the project was another element of their premium innovation hub.

“Digitalisation doesn’t always have to happen in the background. These tablets help our guests find their way around the terminal while ensuring they can always keep an eye on the latest flight information,” Dr Andersson said.

“By connecting the digital and the analogue world, it will bring real added value for our passengers.” he added.

FRANKFURT AIRPORT ALSO TRIALS NEW TECH

In other recent German airport tech news, long security lines may soon be a thing of the past, as a new passenger security scanner is being trialled for six months at Frankfurt Airport.

The new R&S QPS Walk2000 from Rohde & Schwarz aims to speed up security screenings and provides a 360° walk-through scan that can detect all kinds of items quickly and contact-free.

The technology is able to penetrate multiple layers of clothing, making it unnecessary for passengers to remove jackets and coats, like they have to do now.
