Road CLOSURES for Cape Town Marathon
The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, a highly anticipated event on the SA sporting calendar, is set to take place soon, causing some road closures.
On Saturday, 14 October, the event will kick off with trail runs and shorter peace runs, setting the stage for the grand Marathon on Sunday, 15 October, and there is going to be some road closures.

The route will take them through Nelson Mandela Boulevard, passing through various neighborhoods such as Woodstock, Salt River, and Mowbray before heading into the city center and Sea Point.

As the Marathon unfolds, several roads in the Central Business District (CBD) and surrounding areas will be temporarily closed to traffic to ensure the safety and seamless flow of the event.
“This necessitates adjustments in travel plans for both residents and visitors. The city is well-prepared to manage these logistics and maintain security,” said City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

KEY ROAD CLOSURES TO BE AWARE OF ON SUNDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2023, INCLUDE:
- Helen Suzman Boulevard (between Beach Road and Granger Bay Boulevard): 06:00 to 14:30
- Beach Road (between Surrey Pl and Portswood Drive): 04:00 to 08:00
- Three Anchor Bay Rd (between Main Road and Beach Road): 06:00 to 14:00
- Beach Road (between Helen Suzman Boulevard and Queens Road): 03:00 to 14:30
- Fritz Sonnenberg Road (between Stephan Way and Beach Road): 06:30 to 08:30
- Buitengracht Street (between Helen Suzman Boulevard and Dock Road): 05:30 to 08:15

NO PARKING IN THESE AREAS
Additionally, there will be restrictions on parking in specific areas on the morning of the Marathon. No parking will be allowed on Long Street between Riebeek and Strand streets, and parking is prohibited on Plein, St Johns, and Hatfield Streets between Darling Street and Orange Street from 06:30 to 12:30.
