UMngeni Municipality mayor Chris Pappas, has had a little chuckle at the ANC Youth League following their march at the Howick CBD to have him ousted.

The governing party’s youth wing, calls for Pappas to be removed from office and face corruption charges for allegedly paying uMngeni Tourism- an NGO chaired by Pappas fiance Jonathan JP Prinsloo.

On Thursday, youth league members took to the street, calling for the mayors arrest, however a spelling error is all the march is remembered by.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the mayor asked his followers to assist them ANCYL in finding the man they are looking for. All as they spelt his last name incorrectly.

The protesters held up banners saying ‘Arrest PASSAS now!’

“Please help find Passas. ANCYL is looking for him in uMngeni,” tweeted the mayor.

A LETTER TO THE PUBLIC PROTECTOR

Pappas alleged corruption deals became public as soon as he was announced as the DA’s premier candidate for the 2024 elections.

Former DA KZN leader turned ANC member Sizwe Mchunu, has written to the Public Protector, calling for an investigation into the allegation of nepotism and corruption.

In his letter Mchunu says that there is no documentation from the NGO, where they formally request the funds, nor what is ever stated what the money will be used for.

“Besides this being a precedent that has never occurred in uMngeni Municipality, the amount granted to Prinsloo’s organisation far exceeds any of the grants given to the other entities advocating for exactly a similar venture” Mchunu states.
