Kaizer Chiefs football club, along with the words “Kaizer Chips” and Katsande have been trending on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

This comes after Amakhosi, on Monday, 2 October, announced its bold venture into the culinary world with the debut of its first-ever potato chips range.

KAIZER CHIPS: WILLARD KATSANDE, BOB STEAK

The chips come in three flavours; Grilled Steak, Tomato and Salt and Vinegar.

However, fans are disappointed that the club’s marketing team did not think of better and more creative names for the chips and some of the flavours.

In the case of actual chips, fans were hoping the club would brand them “Kaizer Chips” – owing to the fact that rival fans have been calling the club that for years when bantering.

The salt and vinegar flavour, according to fans, should have been named after the club’s former midfielder Willard Katsande. The Zimbabwean-born star was given the “Salt and Vinegar” nickname because his first name is the same as a famous chips brand.

Sportscaster, Mpho Maboi also saw a missed opportunity as she suggested the grilled steak flavoured chips should have been called “Bob Steak” which is Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung’s nickname.
