Elon Musk’s dad spills some family secrets
Errol Musk doesn’t hold back, accusing Elon and his brother of “turning away from SA” and him, but also says they’re “very good people”…
South African expat and billionaire Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk has revealed some rather controversial family secrets in an exclusive interview with UK tabloid, The Daily Mail. You can watch some of it in the interview at the bottom of this page.
In the interview, 77-year-old Errol brags about how rich they were – living in a mansion in Waterkloof, with a yacht and a plane – and says by the time he was a teenager Elon had already visited most of the major cities in the world. Errol also reveals how he ended up fathering children with a woman (Jana) who was once his step-daughter. According to a recent biography about Elon Musk (52), it claims he hardly speaks to his father anymore because he was “creeped out” by the relationship, although Errol says it was more a fall out over him (Errol) saying he supported Donald Trump.
He tells all about a s*x party he once went to when Elon was only about nine. He says everyone was naked and he had to send Elon to the library to read while he partied with South Africa’s high society.
Errol says he thinks he was a good “hands on” father (who was “strict” but didn’t use a belt), but adds that a father and two sons are not a family, whilst a mother and her kids are. He once believed “there’s no such thing as an intelligent woman” (perhaps explaining why Elon’s love life has been a little complicated).
Errol says in SA, women were regarded as “nest makers” and that he and his brother were typical “red-blooded males” who both had many, many women. He says Elon used to worship women but has learnt “they can be devious”.
Errol says he gave his boys (Elon and brother Kimbal) the money to set up their first company (Zip2) in Silicon Valley. And says it was the European Ambassador to the Southern African region who called him to tell him they’d sold the company for about £50-million… although it turned out to be five times that amount. Errol believes the best way to raise children is “to make them independent”.
Apart from boasting about being “brilliant’ at maths, Errol also reveals that his sons organised a 70th birthday party for him at a restaurant in Cape Town that was attended by Amber Heard, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence, amongst others. Errol told the Daily Mail: “I can’t remember the male actors. But I remember that those actresses were very, very pretty but very small with tiny little hands. They came to Cape Town on private jets. These were the people Elon liked to be with – bleeding heart, super-Leftist people.”
He said it was after that lunch, in which he said he supported Trump, that “Elon gave an interview saying I was evil”.
Elon’s dad says:
“When you come from South Africa to the US, those Lefties think you’re a Nazi. To succeed, you need to be accepted by them, so my sons started becoming these flaming liberals – turning away from South Africa and their roots, which included me. They said they’d run away from South Africa because they didn’t want to join the military and fight for apartheid.
“But I don’t believe there was ever any question of them serving in the military. They had a cossetted, privileged life but when they began to say they went to the States as refugees from apartheid Nazis where they were being bullied and beaten, people really bought into it.”
In the interview, Errol reveals that Elon appointed his older cousin to run X (formerly Twitter), and that both his (super smart) nephews work there too.
With Starlink, Errol believes Elon’s “going to take about two years but he’s going to take over the whole world’s wi-fi.” When asked if his son should have so much power, he says:
“He’s the best person to have it. My sons are very good people. They’re considerate. They’re not bad. They’re not in any way selfish. Curiosity is the biggest thing that drives Elon.”
Errol also speaks well of his his ex-wife Maye, admitting he took her for granted and “she was a very wonderful wife”. He says it’s amazing she put up with being “second fiddle to me” for so long, and has since proved she’s capable of so much more.
