Waste removal services normalised in parts of Ekurhuleni
The City of Ekurhuleni has normalised waste removal services in affected areas following service disruptions last week.
The piling up of refuse in parts of Ekurhuleni is slowly becoming something of the past after waste removal services were normalised this week.
WASTE REMOVAL SERVICES BACK TO NORMAL IN EKURHULENI
The City of Ekurhuleni, which has struggled to collect refuse effectively in the past couple of months, announced the normalisation of services in some areas today, Thursday, 28 September.
“The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to thank all its customers in parts of the Benoni area for their patience during waste removal service interruptions due to unforeseen circumstances over the past weekend,” the City communicated.
“All waste removal backlog has been cleared in areas such as Wattville, Actonville, Kingsway, Etwatwa, and Daveyton.”City of Ekurhuleni

RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO TAKE OUT REFUSE ON COLLECTION DAYS
The City of Ekurhuleni advised the residents to continue to take out their 240L wheelie bins for collection on allocated calendar days as early as 07h00 in the morning for pick up.
Meanwhile, the Weltevreden (Brakpan) and Simmer and Jack (Germiston) landfill sites have been re-opened for public use, bringing about stable and seamless waste removal and disposal services across the city.

CITY OF JOBURG REFUSE TARIFFS GO UP BY 7%
Recently, the City of Johannesburg increased the refuse tariff by 7%. The increase was announced by City of Joburg MMC for Finance, Councillor Dada Morero, who explained the reason behind it which affects other services such as electricity, water, property rates and sanitation.
Here’s what you need to know, courtesy of the City of Joburg:
Residents have to pay the prescribed fee, for the provision of municipal service, which must be in accordance with any nationally prescribed and standards for rates and tariffs.
- Refuse charge is levied on residential customers (domestic) based on the value of properties.
- Properties valued at and below R350 000 as well as indigent households are exempt from this charge.
- A standard residential/ domestic refuse service will comprise the removal of a single 240 litres wheelie bin, once per week.
- Refuse charge is billed once monthly.
- Refuse charge/ tariffs is applicable to properties from date of registration and apply to all residential properties base within the jurisdiction of the City of Johannesburg.
