Siya Kolisi set for special Springbok milestone on Sunday

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi will achieve a special milestone when he leads the team against Tonga this Sunday.

The Springboks will be looking to put their loss to Ireland behind them as fast as possible as they target a bonus-point win against Tonga in Marseille on Sunday. Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi will be celebrating a rather special occasion.

The outcome of this match will be crucial in determining which two teams from Pool B advance to the quarter-finals, and who they will play in the top-eight playoff.

This final pool game kicks off at 21h00 on Sunday and will be broadcast live on SuperSport and SABC.

What shouldn’t go unnoticed is the fact that Siya Kolisi is set to captain the Springboks for the 50th time, with the 32-year-old having already become the second-most capped Bok skipper of all time.

Kolisi has gone well clear of Jean de Villiers (37 Tests as captain), and only John Smit (83 matches) has led South Africa on more occasions.

  • It will be the third Test match between the Springboks against Tonga. The last time they lined up against one another was at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, also in France, with the Boks winning by 30-25.
