Those old enough to recall that final against New Zealand at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on 24 June 1995 won’t ever forget Springbok flyhalf Joel Stranksy landing a drop goal in extra-time to give South Africa a 15-12 victory.

It was South Africa’s first participation in the World Cup which had started in 1987.
The Springboks would go on to win the tournaments in 2007 (in France) and 2019 (in Japan) and are among the favourites to win a record-breaking fourth Webb Ellis Cup in France next month.

So, what has happened to the starting XV from that unforgettable 1995 final now 28 years ago?
Tragically, four of the run-on team have died, along with coach Kitch Christie.
