The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) recently warned that over 1 million vehicle licenses on its system were due to expire at the end of September 2023. If your name falls into that list, time is ticking and a third-party license renewal service could be your best bet.

To their credit, the RTMC has granted several extensions on license renewals since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they’re not messing around anymore, going online or using a third-party license renewal service would be the quickest way to remedy an overdue vehicle license.

Before we get into SA’s best third-party license renewal services, here’s what you’ll be fined and the demerit points you’ll receive for any expired vehicle violations:

For quick and easy results when it comes vehicle license renewals online, the Department of Transport’s (DOT’s) eNatis.gov.za website is definitely the way to go. It used to only service certain provinces but now it handles vehicle license renewals countrywide. Click HERE to access the portal. There is a R72 service fee and R99 delivery fee, for a total cost of R171.

The Western Cape offers its own equivalent known as e-Services. You can visit their website HERE. Encouragingly, the fee cost of vehicle license renewal is the same. A R72 service fee and R99 delivery fee, for a total cost of R171.

You must remember that the fees listed above are on top of the vehicle license renewal cost of your particular vehicle. As we explained in an earlier article which you can read HERE, these are based on your vehicle’s unladen mass (Tare) and which province you’re in.

WHAT OTHER THIRD-PARTY SERVICES ARE THERE?

There are plenty of specialist third-party license renewal services in South Africa. All you need do is type in ‘renew my vehicle license’ into a search engine and you’ll find them all. Here’s a snapshot of how they compare:

1. PAYCITY

PayCity is currently the cheapest at R113.85. They offer no service fee or delivery fee. R113.85 all-in. However, the third-party license renewal service is only available in major cities. PayCity also gives you the option to view and pay speeding and traffic fines, municipal accounts and prepaid utilities. Register for it HERE.

2. POST OFFICE

We know the Post Office and particularly Post Bank is going through a bit of a downturn right now. Therefore, we cannot gurantee the quality of their third-party license renewal, but they are the next cheapest. With a R72 service fee and R75 delivery fee, it works out to R147 total. It is available countrywide but check if the post offices nearest you is still operational. You can do so HERE. You can also call thes Post Office call centre on 0860 111 502 for more info.

3. CHECK YOUR BANKING PROFILE

Third-party license renewal services have become so prevalent of late, many can be accessed through your banking app or online banking. This all depends on your bank and what tier of service you’re on. Likewise, double check for additional admin and courier fees.

4. MAJOR SUPERMARKETS

Supermarket retailers like Pick n Pay and the like also offer third-party license renewals. In most instances you apply online. However, for the convenience it is also the most expensive option here with a R250 service fee and R79 delivery fee, adding up to R329 in total. For whatever reason, this service is NOT available in the Western Cape.
