Coming to Gmail: emoji reactions
Gmail may soon give you the option to react to an email with emojis, this new feature is still being developed.
Emoji reactions for Gmail are currently being developed by Google, and if they are ever made available, they might give the email platform a more messaging app-like vibe.
According to The Verge, this development first came to light a few weeks ago when The Tape Drive reported finding code in the iOS Gmail app that would allow users to respond to emails with emojis, similar to emoji reaction features present on competing platforms like Outlook.

WHO DISCOVERED THAT GMAIL MIGHT INTRODUCE EMOJI REACTIONS?
AssembleDebug, a Google leaker, has discovered many lines of code that specifically mention emoji replies.

Despite the lack of particular information, one line in the APK code states that the function is “coming soon” and that a specific group of Gmail users would be among the first to have access to emoji reactions. This implies a slow rollout prior to a wider public release.
AssembleDebug claims that Gmail users will have the choice of using emoji reactions from the email interface or through the three-dot overflow menu.
The latter choice is now disabled, which is noteworthy. The code also lists restrictions, noting that specific emoji replies might not be available for encrypted communications, in conversations involving a large number of people, or if you have been blind carbon copied (bcc’d).
Additionally, there can be a restriction of 20 emoji reactions per email and a 50 unique reaction cap for some communications.
