City of Cape Town is offering a reward for information

The City of Cape Town is offering a reward of up to R250 000 for information, related to past weekend’s shooting of a police officer.

Following this past weekend’s shooting of a police officer in Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats, the City of Cape Town is offering a reward of up to R250 000 for information.

JP Smith, the city’s Mayco member in charge of safety and security, claims that the cop went out with friends shortly after midnight and was shot shortly after.

HOW MANY SHOOTINGS OF POLICE OFFICERS HAS THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN HAD IN A SHORT SPACE?

According to Smith, there have been two police officer shootings in a little more than a month.

“This is the third shooting of a law enforcement officer in just over a month and the city condemns the incident in the strongest possible terms. We’re very grateful that the officer survived and will assist him and his family on his road to recovery,” said Smith.

This happened two weeks after the Crime statistics showed that, crime has increased in at least five townships regarded as crime hotspots in the Western Cape.

Gugulethu, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha were among the areas that have shown an increased crime rate.

WHY IS THERE A REWARD FOR INFORMATION?

The reward is part of the City of Cape Town helping the police to find the culprits.

“We are doing everything possible to assist SAPS in finding those responsible.

“However, we ask anyone with information about the incident to please report it to the City’s 24-hour tip off line on 0800 11 00 77.

“The City will pay a reward for information that leads to a succesful arrest and prosecution in this case,” said Smith.
