Because of the combustible materials utilized, the fire swiftly spread to several levels of the structure, according to Robert Mulaudzi, a spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS).

Early on Thursday, a fire broke out in a building in the heart of Johannesburg, leaving numerous people injured and dead.
The death toll has increased to 73 and is sure to go up as firemen conduct a search and rescue operation within the structure.
According to Robert Mulaudzi, a spokesman for the City of Johannesburg emergency services, firemen were notified of a fire in a building near the intersection of Delvers and Albert streets at around 1:30 am.

The provincial and municipal governments will provide housing and aid to more than 300 families that were displaced by a building fire on Thursday that claimed at least 73 lives.
At around 1.30 am, Marshalltown firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at a five-story structure on the corner of Alberts and Delvers streets.
