Ballistic expert takes the stand in the Meyiwa murder trial

A ballistic expert is expected to explain how the bullet found in the crime scene matches a firearm of one of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial

A ballistic expert is expected to take the stand in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial on Wednesday, 30 August.

On Tuesday, pathologist Dr Johannes Steenekamp wrapped up his testimony about the autopsy he performed on Meyiwa’s body on 28 October 2014.

BALLISTIC EXPERT TO TESTIFY IN THE SENZO MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL

As previously reported by The South African, in 2022 State Prosecutor, Advocate George Baloyi told the court that the cellphone of the accused was confiscated on his arrest, and then the data on his cellphone was downloaded and various photos were found, inter alia a photo depicting the with the caption ‘My killing machine’.

Baloyi further explained that a forensic pathologist would prove that Meyiwa’s death is consistent with a bullet entrance wound involving the heart and lung.

“But more importantly, we will seek to prove through the ballistic expert that the spent bullet found near the kitchen door matched the firearm that was found in possession of accused No.: 3 in a room he occupied with his girlfriend in Malvern,” he said.

Five men are on trial at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa who was shot at the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo on 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifiso Ntuli face pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
