Mamelodi Sundowns ‘forced’ to dip into transfer market

If Rhulani Mokwena is to be believed then Mamelodi Sundowns will dip back into the transfer market very soon.

Mokwena feels that there is an injury crisis at Sundowns and believes that recruitment is the only answer.

The coach admits that the hectic start to the season which has seen Sundowns win the race to playing five league games on top of early assignments in the Caf Champions League and MTN 8.

These early season games have brought their own cost to bear on Sundowns who reportedly have ten players out with injury.

Mokwena opened up on the struggles after his side’s 1-0 win over Richards Bay on Wednesday evening.

“We are in a difficult moment, we are in a very difficult moment,” he told SuperSport TV.

“But at least we have a bit of break now before the next game. And now we have to crawl towards that game against Polokwane City, use everything that we have.

“We have a strong squad, and now give opportunities to everybody to fight for their place.

“And Richards Bay is a difficult side, very energetic, very aggressive with their pressure. You saw when they pressed with their three, they sustained the pressure, you have to find possibilities in the second line, maybe even the third line.

“Overall a very good performance of the team, even the subs did very, very well. So I’m proud of them.”

WHO WILL THEY SIGN

Mokwena wouldn’t fully commit to obtaining a new signing but said that they were likely to bring in at least one more player before the window closes.

“It depends on what’s available but probably one more – only one more,” he added.

Sundowns are next in action on Wednesday 30 August when they will face Polokwane City in a DStv Premiership clash.
