Springboks head coach Jacques Nienaber confirmed that the NINE players currently placed on standby will be flown back to their respective clubs.
Therefore, they will not join the Springboks in France unless any player is injured against NZ on Friday evening. This is bad news for Handre Pollard and Lukhanyo AM fans. Lets take a look at the NINE players who be sent bac to their clubs.

NINE SPRINGBOKS SENT BACK TO CLUBS AFTER NZ SHOWDOWN
Gerhard Steenekamp, Joseph Dweba, Thomas du Toit, Lood de Jager, Jean-Luc du Preez, Evan Roos, Herschel Jantjies, Handre Pollard and Lukhanyo AM will all return to their respective clubs.
“After this weekend’s game, if there are no injuries, they’ll leave the squad. I’m not even sure if Lukhanyo is truly in the selection frame anyway. He hasn’t even trained with us. He’s still in the process of returning to training,” Nienaber told SARugby in a conference.

Therefore, all of these players will return to their clubs unless anyone is injured in Fridays titanic showdown with the mighty All Blacks.
Meaning, even Pollard, Am and Lood will be returning to their clubs in England and SA. Pollard currently plays for Leicester Tigres whilst de Jager also plies his trade in England for Sale Sharks. Luckily, they are both already in England.

For Am, it is a longer flight back from England to SA. He will be joined b Steenekamp (Bulls), Dweba, Roos and Jantjies (Stormers).
Furthermore, du Toit is set to join Bath after the Rugby World Cup so he could say his farewells to the Sharks, if he hasn’t already.
RWC DREAMS TRULY OVER FOR…
Steenekamp and Jantjies dreams are likely over. This is because even if a prop is injured they have du Toit as cover whilst their are four scrumhalves in the squad in Faf de Klerk, Jaden Hendrikse, Grant Williams and Cobus Reinach.
Therefore, even an injury here will likely see Pollard called up instead.
