‘We’re working on it’ – Ramaphosa’s new load shedding ‘promise’
President Cyril Ramaphosa had much to say recently, including about the current state of Eskom, which is still enforcing load shedding
African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has said putting an end to the country’s worsening load shedding crisis is his government’s top priority, particularly as the country prepares to cast their votes in 2024 national elections.
Ramaphosa was speaking at the Turffontein Racecource, South of Johannesburg on Saturday, 19 August 2023, where the ANC National Working Committee engaged key structures.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has once again stressed that they are hard at working trying to end the rolling blackouts and said they are confident it will be a thing of the past by next year.
“Government on its own is repairing the state-owned enterprises, it is repairing the areas that need reforms, energy has been a great draw back to us, but we are working on it. We are certain that by 2024 the energy crisis will be over as we are ramping up generation more and more of energy and now we have to attend to the transmission, so government is not sleeping on the job, government is busy day in and day out to address the jobs crisis,” Ramaphosa said.
He added that ending load shedding will help in creating more jobs in the country, which is another key problem.

LOAD SHEDDING NOT ENDING IN 2023?
It was ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula who had previously said Eskom would manage to sort out the power crisis before the end of 2023.
When addressing ANC delegates in Boksburg, back in July, Mbalula said they noticed improvements at the power utility, and added: “We are convinced that we can put load shedding behind us by the end of December 2023 if comrades in government remain true to the Energy Action Plan adopted by the ANC NEC in February 2023.”
