The Wallabies have been rocked by the news that one of the key members of the team’s backroom staff has resigned a day before the Australians travelled to France for the Rugby World Cup.

WALLABIES ASSISTANT COACH CALLS IT QUITS

Eddie Jones’ Wallabies departed for the 2023 Rugby World Cup on Thursday, ahead of their final warm-up clash against France before the tournament gets underway in September.

But the occasion was soured by media reports suggesting Wallabies attack coach Brad Davis was not part of the traveling group on Thursday because he had resigned from his position due to ‘personal matters’.

Davis has only been in his role for four months, having been recruited by Eddie Jones in May from London Irish, where he served as defence coach.

With former London Irish head coach Les Kiss joining the Reds, Davis has been linked as the new defence coach for the Super Rugby side.

DOES EDDIE JONES HAVE RWC ACE UP HIS SLEEVE?

Speaking to media at Sydney International Airport, the Wallabies head coach confirmed he had discussions with Davis “a couple of nights ago” about his exit.

Jones did not confirm a replacement for Davis but said it wouldn’t be Scott Wisemantel, although he did speak with him about the opportunity.

“I have spoken to Scott, but he is unavailable,” the Wallabies said.

Asked about a replacement, Jones replied, “I think there’s an opportunity for us and I think we’ll improve our coaching staff.

“Tricks mate. It’s under the hat. There’s a potential candidate ready to step up now. As I said, I think we’ll improve the coaching staff.

“Any coach that comes in is to add not take away and I’m overseeing the attack anyway, as I have been.”
