Player, who will turn 88 on 1 November, took to Facebook to write: “The biggest fault of out the bunker for weekend players, is they decelerate. Acceleration through the ball is vital to consistent bunker play.
“Remember these two things: Stand wide, creating a strong base is vitally important. Too much movement during the swing will lead to less consistent striking.
“Set your wrists very quickly and strike the ball with the club like you’re striking a match.
“Remember, the harder you practice, the luckier you get.”
During his career, Gary Player won nine majors on the regular tour and nine majors on the Champions Tour.
At the age of 29, Player won the 1965 US Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors in a career, known as the career Grand Slam. At the time, he was the youngest player to do so.
Player won three Masters, three Open Championships, two PGA Championships and one US Open during his Hall of Fame career.
