SRD grant: Reasons why your applications may be declined
Did you apply for the SASSA R350 SRD grant and it was declined? Here are the are the reasons why it may have been declined.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) released a list of reasons for why a R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiary’s application may have been declined.
REASONS WHY YOUR SASSA R350 SRD GRANT WAS DECLINED
The R350 Social Relief Distress(SRD) grant from SASSA is administered in terms of Section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is implemented with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance.
The SRD grant is meant for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Special Permit holders between 18 and 60 years old. They must have insufficient means, do not receive social grants or are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.
SASSA has released the following list of reasons for why that may be the case.

Decline Reason | Meaning |
Alternative income source identified | The client had an inflow of cash into their bank account, which exceeded the income threshold for the period during which they applied. It was R595 from August 2021 until March 2022; R350 from April 2022 to July 2022 and it will be R624 from August 2022 until the R350 grant expires in March 2023. |
Identity verification failed | The applicant’s personal details did not match the information received from the Department of Home Affairs. |
Existing SASSA grant | The applicant received another social grant during the application period. |
Debtor | The applicant was paid R350 in a month (or more) in which they did not qualify. SASSA said the money will be withheld to correct the error and all the unqualified payments are recovered. “If the client still qualifies, once all outstanding R350’s were recovered” payment will resume. |
NSFAS registered | The applicant received funding from NSFAS during the application period. |
UIF registered | The applicant received a payout or was registered with the UIF during the application period. |
Government payroll registered | The applicant was employed by the government during the application period. |
Age outside range | If applicants are older than 60 or younger than 18 they will not qualify. |
Deceased Record at Home Affairs | The applicant was registered as deceased on the Home Affairs database during the application period. |
