The City of Cape Town officially welcomed the competing nations to Cape Town during a flag ceremony last Friday, hoisting the flags of each participating nation.

All 16 competing nations have arrived in the Mother City and training sessions are well underway.

This week, the teams focus on their physicality and tactics in preparation for a true test of diverse playing as the margins between the top nations are at their narrowest.

With the top five ranked teams Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica and South Africa being fan favourites, all eyes are on the SPAR Proteas as they compete with home-ground advantage.

‘Having the Netball World Cup on the African continent is a historic moment for the sport, the country, the players and of course, the people. On behalf of the City and all the stakeholders involved in putting this tournament together, I’d like to welcome all the participating nations to our beautiful city – we are excited to host you and this momentous tournament in Cape Town.

‘May all of you embrace the true spirit of sportsmanship and continue to inspire many young girls across the globe and contribute to the growth and legacy of Netball. I hope that you have a memorable experience during your stay here,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
