ActionSA has shown appreciation to former Councillor David Tembe for his service to the residents of Johannesburg over the past 18 months.

DAVID TEMBE SETS HIS FOCUS ON NATIONAL ELECTIONS

This as he resigned as a city councillor to turn his focus to helping the party win the 2024 elections.

Both as a councillor and as a former member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for public safety, councillor Tembe has exemplified ActionSA’s values of ethical leadership by always putting the needs of residents first, attested Funzi Ngobeni, ActionSA’s Gauteng Provincial Chairperson.

“As MMC, he helped oversee one of the largest expansions of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and grew Buya Mthetho operations to fight crime and restore the rule of law.”

ACTIONSA WELCOMES THE MOVE

He added that Councillor Tembe made the decision to resign after speaking to ActionSA leadership, “and we welcomed his commitment to helping ensure that we dominate in the 2024 elections”.

“He remains a member of ActionSA’s Senate, our highest decision-making body,” Ngobeni assured.

“ActionSA looks forward to working with Councillor Tembe in the months ahead as we work with more and more communities to help remove the ANC in 2024 and start the all-important work of fixing South Africa,” he said.

A BIT ABOUT THE FORMER JMPD CHIEF OF POLICE

  • Tembe’s career in public safety began as a paramedic in 1981. He served with the Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) for many years. He became a superintendent in 1989 and was appointed acting director in charge of the EMS academy in 1999.
  • 2001 saw Tembe be appointed as director of operations for Joburg EMS. IOL reports that in that role, he was responsible for 26 city fire stations. Roll on another year and Tembe was appointed the acting chief of the EMS.
  • Under his leadership, the URBAN Search and Rescue was established. The group went on to represent South Africa during disasters in Iran and Algeria.
  • Tembe was previously appointed director of operations for the JMPD in 2003 after 20 years with the EMS.  His first stint in charge was a success as he received an award from the National Department of Transport for innovation and excellence in Traffic Law Enforcement.
