Western Cape dam levels: Theewaterskloof hits 100% capacity

The official dam level stats in the Western Cape have skyrocketed in recent weeks following heavy rainfall and now show that five of the six dams are currently at, or exceeding, capacity.

The six major dams in the province – the Berg River, Steenbras Lower, Steenberg Upper, Theewaterskloof, Voëlvlei and Wemmershoek – are cumulatively UP on a similar period last year.

And the good news is that more rain is forecast for the Western Cape in the coming days.

The City of Cape Town uploaded its latest stats as of Wednesday, 21 June.

The latest figures show the six dams are a combined 93.9% of total storage.

That’s up from 79.2% the previous week.

A year ago the combined percentage stood at 64.8%.

Theewaterskloof, which accounts for more than 50% of the province’s total dam capacity (480 188 MI of a total of 898 221 MI) is at 100% of capacity, while the next biggest dam, Voëlvlei (164 095 MI), is at 64.5%.
