South African sailor Kirsten Neuschäfer, the first woman to win the Golden Globe around-the-world race, is not just the toast of the town… but the whole world, with the New York Times joining the throng of international publications clamouring to interview the golden girl and find out her secrets to winning a race known as being the ‘voyage for madmen’.

Kirsten is now back on home soil (joking that she’s gone “from champion to skollie on the beach” and speaks exclusively to Carte Blanche this weekend, sharing her lessons in solitude!

“It’s the most gruelling unassisted solo yacht race around the world,” says Carte Blanche. “Attempted by only the world’s finest sailors, the Golden Globe Race is designed to test skills to the limit and challenge an athlete’s mental fortitude. With no navigational tools or weather reports, Kirsten Neuschäfer battled the elements and intense loneliness for 235 days to cross the finish line a day ahead of her competitors. Now, after winning the world’s toughest sailing competition the old-fashioned way, she’s back on home soil and getting her feet stuck into her next solo adventure.”
