Further details have emerged about the tragic incident that claimed the life of Amber Crouse aboard a super yacht moored in Nice on the French Riviera. The 26-year-old South African stewardess died on Saturday morning, 10 June. Tributes have rolled in, remembering Amber as a beautiful human who brought so much love and light to those around her.
According to local newspaper, the Nice Matin, it has been revealed that Amber was serving breakfast to the occupants of the boat when the tragedy occurred.
Amber, who had been working on and off The Goose for the last couple of years reportedly slipped down an interior staircase, and knocked her head hard on a wall of the boat. Emergency services and firefighters were unable to resuscitate her.
As reported yesterday by SAPeople, her boyfriend Ashley Ogborne, who also worked on the boat, wrote a poignant post calling her the “love of my life” and revealing he would “miss her for every day I have left in mine”.
Ashley and Amber had met at the University of Pretoria and fallen instantly in love. “Amber was the kindest, happiest soul I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. A person you thought you’d known your whole life within 10 minutes of meeting her. She had a unparalleled joie de vivre and lived each day with purpose, passion and excitement,” said Ashley.
Amber was passionate about yoga and travel. As a stewardess her role including welcoming guests on board, serving them meals and arranging their activities during stop-overs. She also gave yoga lessons on the ship’s pontoon.
In photos and videos, hashtagged #traveltheworld, Amber documented her love for travel with pictures from Indonesia to Sicily, London to Cambodia and Mallorca to Montenegro. A friend wrote: “She needed to travel and discover the world and she showed it to us in the most beautiful way.”
She loved the south of France. “Which city in the world attracts you the most?” she recently asked on an Instagram post, featuring a photo of a beach in Juan-les-Pins (nestled between Nice and Cannes).
A fundraiser started by Ashley, to help repatriate Amber back to South Africa, and to help her parents, has already reached almost £2,000 more than its £10,000 target.
