The Tulip Hotel in Cape Town was demolished today (1 March 2015)…and has given rise to a spate of videos on YouTube showing the demolition from all angles, at all speeds and with a range of soundtracks. Here are some of the best…
Residents in the area are reportedly relieved that the hotel, which was redundant and in a dreadful state of disrepair, has been demolished…but they are anxious to know what will replace it. Apart from reports that the next project will be another hotel, not much information is available. Residents have been reassured though that negotiations will be held with everyone every step of the way.
Just under 100 kg of explosives was used for the implosion which was deemed the safest means of removing the building.
Exclusion zones were sets aside so that the public were able to safely watch and film the event.
