The full statement from the Community Crime Prevention Facebook page read as follows:
Yesterday afternoon at 14:13 our control room received multiple Buzzer alerts informing us that a Caracal (wild cat) had been hit by a motor vehicle at the top of Suikerbossie near Llandudno and was still alive but was injured and lying in the road. Our responders together with Grant Spooner from Marine Scene and SAPS rushed off to the scene and transported it to Hout Bay Vet. It was subsequently transferred to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA specialised wildlife unit, who are better equipped to treat wild animals. Unfortunately one of its legs was broken quite badly amongst other injuries, it is however expected to make a full recovery as per Urban Caracal Project, Cape Town, South Africa! Once it has healed it will be released back into the same area!
This incident comes on the back of the renowned Hermes another Caracal who was frequently spotted in and around the City Bowl who was sadly killed last week when he too was knocked down by a motor vehicle on Philip Kgosana drive in the early hours of the morning. We urge motorists to PLEASE BE VIGILANT of wildlife when driving, especially at night and when it is raining!
