One of new blue commuter trains that are being rolled out – very slowly – in a few parts of the country was spotted today on the iconic False Bay line running from Muizenberg to Simonstown.
The False Bay line is one of the most gorgeous routes in the world, running on the coast, but because of the long-running breakdown and decay of train lines across South Africa, few people have been enjoying it. Maybe when the new trains are brought in by the Passenger Railway Agency of South Africa, that could change.
Captured by tour guide Daphne Kayster as it passed Kalk Bay, the train is one of the new Gibela-manufactured trains that are being tested on several Cape Town and Pretoria lines at the moment and still have to be passed by the country’s Railway Safety Regulator.
A number of sets of the train were brought down to Cape Town over the weekend, and passed through Kimberley and Matjiesfontein.
