As communities, dance groups, hospitals, schools and many other people around the world continue to dance the #JerusalemaChallenge – which has lifted spirits globally during COVID – the original video of South African Master Kg’s brilliant song, sung by Nomcebo Zikode, has now been viewed 100 million times on YouTube.
From Ghana to Italy to the beaches of Cape Verde to hospitals and game parks across South Africa, everyone seems to be getting in on the #JerusalemaChallenge.

Carte Blanche recently labelled the song the Covid-19 Theme Song. The current affairs show said: “Was it the secret sauce of Limpopo-born producer Master KG’s dance track and a catchy dance routine that launched the gospel-house song “Jerusalema” into the hearts and minds of a global audience?” The South African produced recording was actually released in 2019 before becoming the global soundtrack of the COVID-19 pandemic.
