At least three factories in the Western Cape have turned their focus away from their normal production of clothing and liquor to turn out much-needed face masks and hand sanitiser.
The companies are KWay, Reliance Clothing and Distell in Paarl.
Agriculture MEC Ivan Meyer said in a statement yesterday that he had visited two places in Paarl, one a nursery where some of the 100,000 masks to be given to agricultural workers were handed out, and Monis Distell, which has committed to using 100,000 litres of alcohol for hand sanitiser and other sanitising products, which will be given free to vulnerable communities.
Western Cape premier Alan Winde said today, “I visited two clothing manufacturers who have repurposed their factories in order to make cloth masks.
“The KWay factory in Ottery and the Reliance Clothing factory in Observatory have both recently repurposed their production lines in order to make cloth mask.”
