South African Coronavirus Update: 274 Cases Tested Positive by Sunday

In the latest coronavirus update in South Africa, confirmed by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Sunday evening 22 March 2020 – the country had 34 new cases that tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, bringing the current total to 274.

According to the NCID (National Institute of Communicable Diseases), South Africa has tested 9,315 people. Of that 9,041 tested negative for the virus.

The NCID said: “We urge the public to continue practicing preventive measures such as social distancing, hand hygiene and cough etiquette.”

The breakdown of coronavirus cases in South Africa by province is:

  • Gauteng 132
  • KwaZulu-Natal 36
  • Limpopo 1
  • Mpumalanga 6
  • Western Cape 88

By gender, there are now 104 females with coronavirus and 170 males.
