South Africa Unbeaten Going Into Final Day at Cape Town Sevens

Springbok Sevens Coach Neil Powell says South Africa will have a ‘serious look’ at their discipline as they head into the final day of the Cape Town Sevens.

The SA Sevens team continued their good form by finishing top of Pool A, beating Fiji 26-14 and the USA 21-15 after a 49-0 demolition of Japan.

The Blitzboks will now meet African compatriots Kenya in the Cup quarter-finals, but Powell warned that they could come crashing down if they are not on song against the Kenyans.

‘They are a big, strong and physical team and will play that way against us,’ Powell predicted. ‘They will also have a lot of confidence because they finished top of their pool.’

South Africa have also conceded a yellow card in every game at the Cape Town Sevens, and Powell said it is something they must address.

South Africa’s men had flexed their muscles when they overturned a 14-point deficit to comfortably defeat last season’s series winners Fiji, and they again had to dig deep to claim victory over a determined USA side.

In the opening exchanges, two early errors from the USA gifted South Africa possession, and Dylan Sage would eventually make them pay when he darted over for the opening try.

Soon after, the hosts dished up a special as Justin Geduld kicked ahead from well within his own half. Seabelo Senatla sprinted upfield, grubbered ahead and Rosko Specman collected to score.

Those points came when SA were one man down, after a tip tackle from Chris Dry, and then it was Senatla who was also sent to the sin bin for another lifting tackle.
