Protests continue to rock parts of South Africa with one fatality reported last night in the Western Cape, and a road dug up in the North West province.
ANC member Andiswa Ndevu tragically died in a motor accident on Tuesday night, trying to escape violent protestors.
Ndevu, a single parent and member of the ANC in Ward 42 Gugulethu, as well as of the ANC Women’s and Youth Leagues, was trying to escape violent protests at the corner of Lansdowne and Symphony Way, an intersection that links Crossroads, Delft and Luzuko, said the ANC.
According to witnesses, a car in front of her had been stoned, and as she attempted to make a U-turn, another vehicle drove into her car. She died on the spot.
“We are shocked and saddened by the death of our Comrade,” said ANC Western Cape provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs.
“We express our condolences with her family and call on our communities to refrain from taking their frustrations and anger out on motorists. There are other more peaceful ways to protest.”
Meanwhile on Tuesday afternoon in the North West province, protestors allegedly hijacked an excavator and tore at the road, ripping holes in the Sarafina entrance alongside the N12 between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom.
Protests varied from demanding the resignation of a ward councillor to arguments over the allocation of stands.
