St John’s DSG in Pietermaritzburg – the ‘small school with the big heart’ – has proved its teachers really are big-hearted, with a behind-the-scenes video that will melt your heart.

The KwaZulu-Natal school posted the video on Tuesday morning for parents, saying:

If you have ever wondered where our teachers are – and what they do – during school plays (such as today’s nativity) while your little girls perform oh-so-confidently on stage, they’re most likely at the back of the theatre, in the sound box (where the audience can’t see them), giving exaggerated cues for your little ones to follow! ? #passion #smallschoolbigheart

The wonderful, enthusiastic teacher in the video is Grade R’s Kristy Burt.

The school said that the song in the video is ‘Special Star’ by South Africa’s iconic Mango Groove… and then added “yes, we love Mango Groove!”, referring to their brilliant Freedom Day video in April which went viral.

Everyone in the school – from the youngest learner to the oldest, and including all staff, took part in this wonderful celebration… performed to Mango Groove’s ‘Dance Some More’.
