A third bus is now reported to have been set alight in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, Monday morning. It is believed to be related to a minibus taxi strike planned by taxi operators for today, although the SABC says this has not yet been confirmed.

Two Golden Arrow buses were torched earlier this morning. Two fire engines, a water tanker, rescue vehicle and 14 firefighters from the City of Cape Town’s fire department were first dispatched at 04h54.

All bus services into Khayelitsha have been suspended until further notice, for the safety of commuters.

The taxi strike is planned to affect the whole of the Western Cape, and commuters are warned to also expect delays with Metrorail. eNCA says the taxi drivers are protesting over a leadership dispute involving the provincial arm of the SA National Taxi Council.

Some witnesses on Twitter said the three buses were burnt and stoned.

Community organisations in Khayelitsha are also protesting the sexual violence experience by primary school children today.
