A cute little baby hippo who was recently rescued needs to be adopted, and whoever the lucky person is who adopts her… you’ll get the privilege of naming her too!
Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre, a non-profit rehabilitation centre for native South African wildlife, got a call out for the baby hippo who was stuck in a cement dam and unable to get out.
“When we got there we saw this tiny little head poking out of the water,” says Umoya. “It looked like she had been following her mum and probably fell in. We were not sure how long she had been in there but due to her condition it was probably about 48 hours or more.”
The wildlife centre searched unsuccessfully for her mum, and ultimately had to make the difficult choice to bring her back to the centre.
“She was obviously very stressed, scared and tired but after staying with her through the night we managed to get her feeding,” says Umoya. “She has a few wounds over her feet and legs but is doing very well.”
Hippos drink from their mums for 12 months, so this little one will be at the Umoya Khulula Wildlife Centre for a while.
“As you can imagine, to rehab a hippo is quite an expensive process, so to help fund this we would love for someone to adopt this beautiful little girl,” says Umoya.
“You will get to name this precious face and your contribution will go towards getting her back to the wild. The highest donation will get to adopt her, so please comment HERE your amount. All amounts need to be in by the 29th of April and we will announce the proud adoptee and the chosen name.”
