PARKTOWN – Police in Gauteng, South Africa, have launched a search for an unknown number of suspects following the fatal shooting of three security guards in Kempton Park.
The suspects were allegedly driving in three vehicles on Tuesday, 08 December 2020 – two VW Polos and a Mercedes Benz with unknown registration numbers.
Police cannot yet disclose the identity of the three men who were found shot and killed in a white Toyota bakkie which belongs to a security company. The driver was injured and taken to hospital, said the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Police on Tuesday afternoon (08 December 2020) responded to a complaint of a shooting in progress between police and armed suspects believed to be behind the earlier fatal shooting of the three security officers in Kempton Park.
The joint team of SAPS and EMPD members attending to the complaint pursued the suspects’ VW Polo from Kempton Park up to Kanna Street in Benoni. The suspects were eventually cornered in Beach Street, Northmead Extension 4 following an exchange of gunfire with the police. Two suspects were fataly wounded. The third suspect who was the driver was wounded and taken to hospital where he is under police guard.
During the arrest, police recovered two AK 47 rifles from the suspects’ vehicle.
The motive for the shooting is yet to be determined, said SAPS.
