A video has been going viral on South African social media, sadly showing a mother using her three children to steal a handbag from a customer at a Steers restaurant in Paarl in the Western Cape.
The family hover near a table with the mother either on the phone or pretending to be on the phone. At first the youngest child, a little boy, tries to grab the bag, but later an older child, a girl, manages to get it after a few attempts. They walk away together, not running, with her holding the bag.
WC Police confirmed to News24 that the footage was filmed on 11 November outside a Steers at Paarl Mall. They said: “A theft case is currently being investigated by the Paarl police.”
It’s a reminder to make sure your handbag is always within your vision, no matter where in the world you are.
