The devastation left after four days of fires raging in South Africa’s southern Cape can be clearly seen in this drone footage.
So many homes were lost and seven lives were taken as the inferno burned up the normally beautiful Garden Route.
Locals in Plettenberg Bay and Knysna would far rather people please watch this video than visit the resort towns to witness the devastation firsthand… like ‘Fire Tourists’.
One local told SAPeople: “The thousands of people that are now flocking here for sightseeing and to take photos is really traumatizing those residents that were severely affected. Please be compasionate… it is worse than the December holidays right now with all the out of town numberplates…”
Another described these out-of-towners getting in the way of fire trucks, stopping in the middle of the road to take selfies “while we are still fighting flare-ups and trying to sort out infrastructure”.
