President Jacob Zuma has unintentionally united South Africans in a way never seen before… and seldom seen in any country on the planet: members of opposition political parties are gathered together in Pretoria, singing together, with one united voice: “Zuma Must Fall”.
These South Africans – from all races and walks of life – have had enough of the alleged corruption in government; alleged manipulating of top government appointments by Zuma’s friends, the wealthy Gupta Family; and enough of being led by a man who appears to be caring more for his own needs than that of his country’s.
The DA said the only call that Zuma will receive from them today, on his 75th birthday, is a call to resign.
EFF leader Julius Malema has just addressed the crowd before the march begins, emphasising how incredible Zuma’s achievement has been in unwittingly creating a “united opposition”.
Malema has urged the crowd that if anyone is seen looting “pull them by the trousers and say: ‘We are not here for that today’.”
He told his EFF followers to let the opposition parties join them and to follow leaders and remain on the official march route: “We don’t want to see only red here… as we march, we want to see a mixture of all parties… Hold hands together.” He referred to all the parties and colours present (see video below).
The parties have a message, he said – that Zuma is no longer a credible leader – and therefore it is important that that message is conveyed by following the rules and the leaders.
