Two of the most shared videos of the devastation caused by Cyclone Dineo, as it touched down in Mozambique earlier this week, were in fact not filmed in Africa.
The first, posted by South African Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula and subsequently shared by several sites, shows a car being blown over by torrential rain and wind.

The footage was apparently filmed in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in India after Tropical Cyclone Vardah hit the region on 12 December 2016, leaving several dead.

The second shows a Toyota Land Cruiser being swallowed by a flash flood.
The footage was in fact apparently filmed in Chaman, Pakistan, during heavy rains in the region last month, January 2017. The original video is longer… and shows the occupants in the vehicle getting out. According to CarScoops, one person sadly died but two were lucky to escape alive.
Rainfall from Ex-Dineo is now lashing Limpopo after leaving 20,000 homes destroyed, 130,000 people displaced or affected, and a reported seven fatalities. See more Dineo Updates, including the Kruger here.
