GAUTENG – Airports Company South Africa has confirmed in the past hour that O.R. Tambo International Airport is experiencing delays on inbound and outbound flights due to adverse weather conditions and low visibility.
Passengers are advised to avoid parking in the lower basement parking, which was first flooded yesterday, and should make use of alternative parkades such as multi-story parkade and shaded parking.
In the interest of passenger safety, Airports Company requests understanding and co-operation during this time. Rather be patient and safe…
The airport was badly affected yesterday after a flash flood hit Johannesburg and the East Rand. Flights were grounded as part of the roof caved in, the lower basement parking flooded and cars were submerged on roads leading to and from the international airport.
According to Gauteng Weather, OR Tambo airport received 89.6mm in approximately three hours during yesterday’s storm! View more Joburg flood photos from yesterday (09 November) at OR Tambo International Airport, and video.
