The Democratic Alliance (DA) has revealed they have provisional confirmation that the Motion of No Confidence will be debated next week; and a petition calling for a support of the motion to remove President Zuma has already been signed by over 16,000 South Africans in just two hours.
“Next week will be the moment of reckoning for our country,” the DA said in a statement on social media, adding that they view this as a South African motion rather than a party-specific motion.
The motion will be debated on Thursday 10 November.
The DA said the “Zuma presidency has been a blight on South Africa – only his removal from office can help repair the damage he has caused.”
The Public Protector’s report into State Capture, which was published yesterday, revealed corruption pointing to “Zuma and his cronies”. The DA also cites Zuma’s leadership failures – “including his meddling in the National Prosecuting Authority to get rid of Pravin Gordhan” and his violation of the Constitution.
The implication of removing Zuma from office would “dissolve his cabinet and rid South Africa of the corrupt ministers identified by the Public Protector’s report once and for all,” said the DA.
Beneath the petition is a section where members of the public can write to the ANC caucus to encourage ANC MPs to vote with opposition parties to remove Zuma.
With rising calls for Zuma to step down, Rubber Duc’s ‘Step Down’ (which was first uploaded in April this year) is starting to go viral again…
