Until recently Caster Semenya was famous for her silence, posting only images of inspirational quotes on her Twitter account like “When life puts you in tough situations, don’t say ‘why me’, say ‘try me'”. She seldom added a personal caption… but lately – as all the world’s eyes are on her and her country has united behind her – she’s become a lot more vocal on the social media platform.
After South Africans threw their support behind her on social media with hashtags #HandsOffCaster and #Caster4Gold – she tweeted: “Thank you South Africa… I feel proud to be a South African ..Thanks for the Love and Support.. I’ll make you proud.”
As we get ready to watch her race in the Women’s 800m final tonight (02:15 SA time) – with high expectations to bring home the Gold – here are some more of her recent musings on Twitter:
Her comments have been inspirational…

And – after someone from Zambia pointed out that people in other parts of Africa were supporting her too – she added: “… point of correction THANK YOU AFRICA MUCH LOVE…”
And two days ago, she thanked the Mozambican woman who inspired her…
