South African expat Jan Malan has taken on the world’s longest annual canoe and kayak race, held in Canada. He’s currently sitting in 9th position in a class of 21 solo racers!
The Yukon River Quest began yesterday and ends on 3 July. Entrants from 94 teams will paddle 715km in what’s called the “race to the midnight sun”, from Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to Dawson City Yukon.
Jan, who now lives in Stanford, California, is the only South African participant in the quest. There are 236 paddlers from 14 countries taking part.
