HARARE – An American plane carrying cargo destined for the SA Reserve Bank has been impounded in Harare after a dead body was found on board, reportedly after blood was seen dripping from the plane during a refueling stop.
”The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is aware of an aircraft carrying a SARB consignment that stopped in Harare and was detained following the discovery of an unidentified body that is presumed to be a stowaway on the aircraft,” spokesman Pradeep Maharaj said in a statement on Monday. “The SARB is working with the relevant authorities to ensure that the cargo is released and transported to South Africa.
According to news reports, the plane had been travelling from Germany to South Africa and belonged to Florida-based Western Global Airlines. Zimbabwe’s Civil Aviation Authority was quoted as saying the matter had been handed over to the police to investigate.
