South Africa and New Zealand will play the first semi-final at Twickenham on Saturday, with a kick-off at 17:00 South African time.
France’s Garcès will be supported by assistant refs Romain Poite (also from France) and Ireland’s John Lacey. George Ayoub of Australia will be our television match official (TMO).
Garcès’ has been referee in three Test matches during this tournament, including the South Africa/Japan Test during the first week. It will be his seventh Test involving South Africa. Of the previous six Tests, South Africa won three and lost three.
Argentina and Australia play in the second semi-final, which will be on Sunday at Twickenham. Kick off is at the same time. England’s Wayne Barneswill take charge. His assistant referees will be Peyper and Ireland’s George Clancy. New Zealand’s Ben Skeen will be TMO.
All match official performances are thoroughly reviewed and assessed by the World Rugby Match Official Selection Committee. Yesterday World Rugby found South African ref Craig Joubert’s decision in the final minutes of the Australia vs Scotland match to be incorrect.
