Scatzy.com, a provider of South African content worldwide, has once again provided South Africans abroad with a locally-made movie at the same time the film is released in South Africa.
Last month Scatzy broke into the VoD (Video on Demand) arena with the launch of Strikdas, offering South Africans abroad content from back home as it was released nationwide. This time around, it’s the very controversial movie Treurgrond, with Hofmeyr in the lead role.
Treurgrond is in Afrikaans with English subtitles.
According to the blurb the film “tells the painful story of a farming community in South Africa trying to survive the numerous farm attacks confronting farmers almost every day. These gruesome acts affect not just those closely related to the victims, but set in motion a chain of events. Amidst the pressure and anxiety increased by the growing number of farm murders, Lukas Van Staden tries to protect his family, his friends and his farm.
“Treurgrond digs deeper into a world where relationships, regret, revenge and forgiveness are brought together by one circumstance from which hope and heeling rises.
“The question begs – If one farm attack has such a massive impact on a community, what about all those we never hear about?”
Carte Blanche aired a segment a month ago in which they said “shocking statistics suggest that a farmer’s chances of being murdered [in South Africa] are double that of a police officer.”
The movie was directed by award-winning Darrell Roodt (Sarafina!, Cry the Beloved Country, Winnie Mandela, Yesterday and Little One).
It stars Hofmeyr, along with Erica Wessels, Jana Strydom, Shaleen Surtie-Richards, Andre Frauenstein, Barbara-Marie Immelman, Boikie Pholo, Richard Lukunku, Graeme Kriega, Deon Coetzee and Richard van der Westhuizen.
Scatzy will also soon offer South African sports, e-book and music downloads from popular South African writers and artists from back home.
