The international votes are in with an overwhelming majority win for the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The DA has won 84.44 % of the international votes, with the African National Congress (ANC) in second position with 8.32%.
There was a total of 18,132 valid overseas votes with 15,311 of these being for the DA, and 1,508 for the ANC.
Agang, which did not fair well in South Africa, was actually third favourite for the overseas voters with 1.81%.
And Julius Malema’s EFF, which has secured over 6% of the votes in South Africa, also managed to make its mark overseas, coming in fourth position with 1.41% of the expat votes.
South Africans abroad will be happy to know the long journeys, time off work and costs involved were worth it to have their votes counted.
Seen in pictures on this page is Rosie Letsoalo-Alexandrov who was the first voter in Toronto, and Candice Ormerod who drove over three hours to get to the South African Embassy in Tel Aviv to vote.
As with so many expats who made their mark on 30 April 2014, she says “I was so Proud and Happy to have had the opportunity to vote!”
Update: unfortunately the votes from four overseas cities, including Toronto, have not been counted.
